Happy Thanksgiving, TLTers! 🙂
I’ve got my cranberry sauce cooling in the fridge, a pie crust in progress and I’m about to head out to pick up our turkey. But before I do, I always like to use this holiday to remind myself and my readers of opportunities to help out kids in need.
Here are three reputable organizations working to alleviate childhood hunger that would welcome your donations:
- Action Against Hunger
- Mazon
- American Jewish World Service
And this year, because of all the interest in “lunch shaming,” I wanted to mention a particular charity that helps out kids with school meal debt – School Lunch Fairy. There are many such organizations out there, but I’ve always been moved by the fact that School Lunch Fairy was started by two Florida high school students, Christian Cordon-Cano and Bernardo Hasbach, simply because they couldn’t countenance the shaming of their own peers in the cafeteria. They now donate collected funds to schools around the country, wherever they learn of the need.
Wishing you a holiday surrounded by friends and family, celebrating delicious food and gratitude!
Warmly,
Â
